A woman with short dark hair smiles softly while wearing a heart-shaped necklace that says “Breathe with Your Heart.” Next to her, on a light blue background, bold black text reads: “Don’t Forget to Add ‘With Ease’ When You Talk to the Universe.”

Don’t Forget to Add “With Ease” When You Talk to the Universe

We’ve all been told to “ask and you shall receive.” But here’s the catch: what you ask for—and how you ask for it—matters more than you might realize.

In the earlier part of 2013, I kept saying, “I need a new car but I can’t afford one.” Versions of this statement played in my mind and were muttered under my breath. My car was closing in on 200,000 miles.

At the time I sold Pampered Chef and did home cooking demos. I was on my way to a party with a host I’d never met. We were having a torrential downpour. As I drove along the road, I came to a dip where the water was running across. Traffic was coming in both directions, driving through the water and making it safely to the other side.

I could hear the warning in my head about driving through standing (or running) water, but the cars ahead of me went through with no issues. As soon as my tires hit that water, I knew I’d made a mistake.

My car stalled in the middle of the running water. I sat there stunned as time seemed to stand still and other vehicles drove around me to get where they were going. I could hear the water lapping at the sides of my car. As I type this, I can still feel my heart beating in my chest. I wondered if I should try to walk across or if the car would be carried into the small stream now raging beside the road.

While sitting there, I called my host and let her know I wasn’t making it to the party. I think I dialed a friend who didn’t answer.

Then someone in a large truck attached a tow line to my car and pulled me to the side of the road.

I remember rolling down the window—or maybe opening the door, because they were electric—thanking him and asking what to do. My normally intelligent, problem-solving brain had shut down. He gave me the name of a garage to call and one to avoid.

I called the suggested garage, had it towed, called a friend who came to pick me up, and borrowed a family car.

My car was totaled. I was given more money for it than I would have if it had been traded. I was able to buy my new car—an SUV that sat higher than my old sedan!

I had asked for a new car. I got a new car.
What I failed to include when I asked was “with ease.”

Tips for Talking to the Universe

So, as you talk to the universe, make sure you are clear in what you are seeking. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Be specific – Ask for what you want, not what you don’t. Swap “I don’t want to struggle” for “I welcome abundance with ease.”

  • Add the energy you desire – Words like “with joy,” “with grace,” or “with ease” help shape how things arrive, not just what arrives.

  • Speak in the present tense – The universe responds to your belief. Say “I am ready for…” or “I have…” instead of “someday I’ll get…”

  • Keep it simple – A clear, heartfelt request carries more power than a long list of conditions.

  • Trust the timing – Release your grip on the “how” and “when.” Your role is to ask with clarity, then stay open to receive.

Final Thought

The universe is always listening. The clearer you are in your words, the easier it is for what you desire to flow to you—in the right way, at the right time, and with the energy you truly want behind it.
